Method of teaching

in order to complete the assignment 1 MOT in literary faculty of Pakuan University.

Motivation is some kind of internal and external drive which pushes someone to do things in order to achieve something. William and Burden point out that the strength of that motivation will depend on how much value the individual places on the out come he or she wishes to achieve.
Motivation is categorized in External motivation and Internal motivation. This distinction is categorized from where the motivation is come up. The external motivation is caused by any number of outside factors, for example, the need to pass an exam, etc. By contrast, the Internal motivation comes from individual. The inner needs or the motivation which come from the inside is more important for encouraging success. Even when someone originally who has an extrinsic motivation will more success if he or she has an intrinsic motivation and after that he or she will more enjoy the learning process.

If I am a teacher, I will initiate and grow my students motivation by tell them what they will achieve in the end of the study. It seems like to let them peep the prizes in the Christmas morning. It is more like to grow their imagination from the extrinsic factor, for example, if you fluent in English, you will go around the world and make a communication with the native in proud of your English. Actually, that was my 6th grade English teacher who motivated me. It is some kind of the long term goal, but it is okay to adapt it for my students to prepare them the big world in life. The short term motivation is important too to preparing the students and make them in learning tracks.

To sustain my students motivation, I need lo know more about their thoughts about the material and the classes. I will learn faster about their personalities included their intelligence. After that, I will keeps their motivations by doing some exercises in purpose to make them enjoy to accept the materials. Learning in enjoy condition makes them fast in absorbing the materials and keep them in study tracks.

THE ROLES OF A TEACHER
  • controller
As the controller the teacher is become someone who in charge in the class. Making the class more discipline about the class rules. The teacher who has image as controller has a charisma to make their students obey their rules. Sometimes when students obey the teacher rules is not because the teacher charisma or may be they obey the teacher's rules because they are afraid and look at the teacher as a dictator leader. There are times when acting as a controller make sense as when announcements need to be made, etc.
  • Organizer
One of the most important roles that teachers have to perform is that of organizing students to do various activities. It is vitally important for teachers to get his or her role right when it is required. This s often involves giving the students information, telling them how they are going to do the activity, etc. The teacher as the organizer is someone who prepared -include giving information- their students to do some activities.

  • Assessor
One of the things that students expect from their teachers is an indication of weather or not they are getting their English right. When the teacher play as an assessor they offering feedback and grading students in various ways.
  • Prompter
As a prompter, teacher play as someone who can help the students to persuade their previous knowledge, for example when their students are 'lost for word' the lack of vocabulary.

  • Participant
the teacher as a participant can makes their student more enjoy to study because they feel like study with their friend. For example in the role play or group decision making activities or in the discussion we can enliven things from the inside instead of always having to prompt or organize from outside the group. Participating is often more instantly enjoyable than acting as a resource.

  • Resource
The students may still have need of their teacher as a resource. Students might  ask something in the material such as how to write or how to pronounce it, this where we can be one of the most important source they have. The teacher must be the one who has one step in front of their students.

  • Tutor
For acting as a tutor we are combining the roles of prompter and resource. It is difficult to be tutor in a very large group. When students are working in small group or in pairs, the teacher can go around the class and staying briefly with a particular group or individual, offer the sort of general guidance we are describing. Care needs to be taken.

  •   Observer
The teacher should observe what the students do in order to give their useful group and individual feedback. When observing students we should be careful not to be too intrusive by hanging on their every word, by getting too close to them or by officiously writing things down all the time. It is often useful when  taking notes on students'   performance, not only for what students get wrong but also when they do the right things. Observing for success often gives us a different feel for how well of our students are doing.

WHICH ROLE?

After I Know all of the teacher roles above, I decided to be and to learn those roles to prepare me as a good teacher to face all kind of situations. Being a controller and an organizer makes my class more discipline. Being a prompter, a resource and a tutor makes me a facilitator who can help them in learning process. Being an assessor and an observer makes me the one who know their progress in class. and being a participant makes me the one who know their feel inside. I just want to be their friend who can help them in studying and control them in the right tracks.
